Saint Mary’s 2023 Character Awards on May 16
Saint Mary’s is excited to announce that it will once again host the Minnesota Character Awards on May 16, 2023. In partnership with Synergy & Leadership Exchange, Saint Mary’s will recognize schools and educational leaders from across the state with awards for Minnesota Ethical Leadership, Minnesota Promising Practices, Promising Principal, and Champion of Character.

Diane Moeller begins as core faculty member

Diane is an accomplished educational leader with over thirty years serving in the roles of teacher, principal, superintendent, and an executive director of a special education collaborative. Most recently, she served as the Principal at STRIDE Academy in St. Cloud, MN.

Saint Mary’s University, Diocese of Winona-Rochester partner on new graduate program in Catholic school leadership
Beginning in fall 2022, Saint Mary’s University is launching a 15-credit graduate certificate in Catholic school leadership through its new Christ the Teacher program — a joint initiative between the university and the Diocese of Winona-Rochester to support Catholic school teachers in the diocese who are interested in furthering their education.
AXIS Journal Special Issue Focusses on Character Education in Universities
Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota has published a special issue of AXIS: Journal of Lasallian Higher Education dedicated to university character education. Edited by Dr. Michael Hahn, Assistant Dean of the School of Education, and Dr. Christopher A. Bobier, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, the special issue features contributions from numerous esteemed academics focused upon the topic of character.

Saint Mary’s welcomed Justin M. Anderson, Ph.D. on May 2 to present “Thomas Aquinas, FSC? What Aquinas Could Say about Virtue in the Lasallian Tradition.” Earlier in the day, Dr. Anderson led a faculty seminar on his most recent book Virtue and Grace in the Theology of Thomas Aquinas.

The school of education welcomed Dr. Julie Sperry to lead “A Day of SELf, Discovery: Socio-Emotional Leadership Foundations” a full-day workshop as part of a new character-based professional development series for teachers and educational administrators. Saint Mary’s welcomed Julie Nagashima, Ph.D. to present “Faculty Perceptions of University Character Education.” Based on recent research by Dr. Nagashima, this presentation is open to students, faculty, and staff of Saint Mary’s and will take place on November 10, 2021 at 3 pm on the Twin Cities campus.
